Opening Hours:
2:00pm - 3:00pm and 5:00pm - 6:00pm
Sundays and Public Holidays for public
Mondays ~Saturdays for group bookings only
Admission Fee:

Reckoned as
the first ethnology museum in Hong Kong concentrating on the living
of people from different cultures around the world, the Museum
of Ethnology shares the same vision and mission of Kerry Lake
Egret Nature Park -- to provide quality, healthy, educational
and leisure activities to Hong Kong people.
Through the
thousand plus exhibits, visitors will have no difficulties in
visualising our message and perspective - the intriguing relationship
between human and nature. We will see how we human beings, with
our wisdom and experiences accumulated over generations, can adapt
to the harsh and unforgiving environment imposed by nature. Interestingly,
this behavioural adaptation is nevertheless brought about by making
use of what nature can offer us.
Early human
beings started to use stone, animal bone and skin. Later, with
the development of finer technology, they started to use wood,
reed, bamboo, plant and animal fibre and clay. Human beings soon
recognised their lack of power and rectified by using energy source
provided by nature -- animal, hydropower and wind power. Efficient
ways of tapping and utilising this power like lever and gear were
subsequently developed.
Exhibition
Areas
Traditional ethnology museum compartmentalised their exhibits
according to geographic areas or historical eras. The Museum of
Ethnology divided the exhibits according to their functions or
their implications in different areas of human life.
Exhibits
include Caribou product of Canadian Arctic Inuit, a large
weaving loom from Guatemala, Ritual dance outfit from Papua
New Guinea, 18 feet long Polynesian outrigger dugout canoe
and an 19th century wagon from American West.

Interactive
The Museum of Ethnology tries hard to be interactive and interesting
to visitors. Some exhibits can be touched and operated by visitors.
Live demonstrations like textile and basket weaving, pottery,
music performance will be arranged. Thorough and in-depth understanding
of the living and wisdom of different cultures can also be achieved
through interactive games and study groups.

Feature
Exhibitions
Apart from broadening the collections and changing exhibits on
a regular basis, the Museum will also cooperate with other museums
and educational institutions to organise feature exhibitions from
time to time.
